Representative Keith Bell: Weekly Legislative Update – Feb 1, 2019

Legislative Update – Friday, February 1

Border Trip

Earlier this week I toured Starr and Hidalgo Counties. We met with Border Control Agents, US Customs Agents and DPS Troopers working collaboratively to protect and defend our borders. After personally talking to US Border Control Agents, it’s apparent that they desperately need additional personnel, surveillance assets and structures to stop the illegal immigration, human and drug trafficking occurring in our state.

Leading the House in a Moment of silence

Special thanks to Speaker Bonnen and the House for allowing a moment of silence recognizing the recent tragedy in Athens. We ask for your continued prayers for the healing, support and comfort of the entire Athens community during these difficult days.

Public Education

The first Public Education Committee took place Wednesday with Commissioner Morath and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) officials. We were provided an overview of the current education landscape, their appropriations requests and priorities occurring in our state.

Community College Day

Great to see Dr. Jerry King and Trinity Valley Community College students come by the Austin office. Dr. King is a great leader and visionary, as reflected by the students we met today. Go Cardinals!

Come down to Austin and see Representative Bell at work!

Call our Austin office to schedule an official Capitol Tour today.
